altered kindle case

Hi and good morning all.
My mother got a new version of kindle and gave me the one she used previously.
I thought the case looked a bit 'dull' although I love black :-)

supplies used
mercedes EI M1449
city view FAS R1010
feather, cracks and others from plate 77 'the face is the icon ...' NSPL77
alice collage Q6011NS
words from plate 07 'wings' PLATECP07
halloween flourish CP Q464

gesso 3024-32314
stazon jet black and stone gray
acrylic paints

The case was primed with gesso, stamped with images from the icon plate, and painted with different acrylic paints that I tried to blend. Then the main images were stamped with stazon jet black and some more stamps for the background again, the feather and the cracks. The focus images finally were coloured lightly with acrylic paint.

Thanks so very much for stopping by - and please don't forget to have a look on our challenge blog with a new challenge every fortnight.

nature swatch book page.

Morning all. Mark here and I'm with out my laptop so links will be added as soon as I can.
I'm sharing another page from my swatch book.
I love the animal skeletons as they stamp with great detail. I'm finding my swatch book a great tool for trying new things Before going bigger. I was playing with the Decoart media acrylic misters. I layered my colours up to get a mottled background And the animals were stamped with black archival ink.
Sorry for the brief post. Nightmare week so Far.

holiday snapshot

Hi all and good morning ...
It's Suzanne here.
I'm sharing (maybe) another inspiration for our challenge 'fly away' on the de stempelwinkel stampers challenge blog.

supplies used
pelican CP R556
rough ocean CP S566

antique linen
salty ocean
spun sugar
broken china
weathered wood
pumice stone
dylusion spray white linen DR-DYC37873
waterbrush YA-KWB09
chalk paint

The upper part of the card has been made with the wrinkle free distress technique (distress tains spun sugar and antique linen), then the pelican was stamped and masked, afterwards the rough ocean stamp image. The wave has been coloured with distress stains broken china, salty ocean and weatheed wood, the wave was highlighted with white linen. The latter was also used for the pelican. For the beach I used antique linen. I wanted to adhere a little sand with acrylic medium, but it didn't work. So I painted over the beach with acrylic paint desert sand and I love the texture that appeared.
The (cheap) plastic frame was painted with chalk paint and distressed, the ammonite is an embellishment made from plaster.

Please take a few minutes and stop by at the de stempelwinkel challenge blog and we'd love to see your artwork there.

Have a great Sunday everyone,
hugs, Suzanne xx

Vintage Botanical ATC's

Stamps Used:
All the Botanical Stamps are from Microscopic Artforms PlateSW89
The Text is Background French Text SW S14011

Morning all, Mark here and I am still feeling the Spring mood so I decided to make a set of four Vintage Botanical ATC's. I used the Tim Holtz ATC die and cut my ATC's from mount board. They were base coated with white acrylic paint and washes of Decort's media fluids were added to give the aged look. I stamped the script in Sepia Archival ink.
The Botanical images were stamped using Black Archival ink.
I used Satin varnish to seal the ATC's and once dry added a layer of Decoart's Media Crackle Glaze, It's important to seal the surface you are working on if you plan to use a crackle glaze, if you don't you may not get any cracks form. It is also important not to use a heat gun to dry the crackle glaze, just set it to one side to dry naturally.
Once it had dried I used Decoart's media antiquing cream raw umber to pick out the cracks.
Thanks for stopping by. xx

no one is born a master

Hello everyone out there ...
It's Suzanne here again at the beginning of another week that hopefully will bring us even closer to Spring :-)

supplies used
city view FAS R1010
gargoyle SW N13052
full moon CP E185
hand SW G12055
alphabet october crow SW Q13051

distress ink pads
turquoise BRTURQ
acrylic paints
water soluble wax crayons

For the background I used the 'wrinkle free brusho technique' :-)  (the red was still lurking on my craft mat unseen and went on there unintentionally)
The images were stamped onto the bg and coloured with the wax crayons. Next the hand was stamped separately and coloured in as well.
I thought about how I could make the gargoyle look as if it was made of stone. I tried a mixture of chinchilla sand that I had sitting in my cupboard for years (just the sand, I never had chinchillas :-)), some decoupage glue and white acrylic paint. This paste was spread in quite a thin layer onto cardstock with a pallette knife and let dry, heating it inbetween from both sides.
In the end it not only had a stone like surface but cracks, too *yay* The gargoyle was stamped with a nice juicy stazon ink and 'coloured' with washes of black and gray acrylic paint, then sealed with matte varnish.

I caught my breath when I started to cut it out - but again I've been lucky: not the tiniest bit of the texture came off :-D

Thank you so very much for stopping by and having a look. I'd love you to pay a visit to our de stempelwinkel challenge blog too. This time the challenge is "fly away" and you can use anything that has to do with flying and/or wings; Jetske stocks quite a huge amount of stamps you can use for this one ...

Have a great day and a quiet week
hugs, Suzanne xx

Piece of the purple puzzle

I started with Dusty Concord distress paint and built a few layers of other purple paints through stencils. I stamped the handwriting with Stazon Royal purple.

I used a few embellishments I had made earlier with clay in molds made with mold n' pour and attached them with structure paste. I also sprinkled some sequins in the structure paste.

I painted the white elements with the same purple paints and added stickles to the sequins.

I took the same metallic paint I used on the embellishments and mixed that with multi medium gloss to make it a little bit thicker. I used a pipette to create some faux dripping.  When it was still wet I sprinkled some glitter for extra shimmer.

Green Man Spring Tag

Stamps Used:
The Man is from Mannen 1 Plate SW113
The Maple Leaf is from Foliage Plate CP05
The Letters are from the October Crow Alphabet SWQ 13051
Morning all, Mark here and for the last week we have been enjoying some nice bright days and it feels like spring is right around the corner and I felt like creating a little spring time tag.
I used a media board from Tando-Creative and base coated the tag with some white acrylic paint. I stamped the man with black archival ink and added washes of colour around him using the decoart fluid acrylics. Using the masking technique Black Dragon shared HERE earlier this month I stamped my Maple Leaves with green archival ink. The chap was painted with very watered down fluid acrylics and the 'Spring Time' was stamped with black archival ink.
The whole tag was finished with a couple of coats of satin varnish and edged with black archival ink.
Thanks for stopping by xxxx.

Tick Tock Clock

Hi all, it's Suzanne.
I managed to have a bit more time at my disposal last week and tried my hand at a steampunk clock, it's about 34cm in diameter and I got it - again :-) - from the Dutch shop chain with the capital A.

supplies used
from plate 167 large men PLATESW167
protractor SW E12109
damaged clock from plate 137 steampunk 10 machines  PLATESW137
background roman numbers  FAS S1402

gesso 3024-32314
sanding block SB/S
distress paint antiqued bronze TH-TDD36289
vintage photo
rusty hinge
weathered wood
black soot
forest moss
iced spruce
faded jeans
peacock feathers
peeled paint
waterbrush YA-KWB09
versamark ink TS-VM001
TH die gadget gears
foam paint roller
stampendous embossing enamel aged copper
various acrylic paints

First I dismantled the clock :-) and primed the clockface with gesso.
Then I started experimenting on how to apply paint onto it without that looking gruesome wonderfully imaginative and creative blog friend Mark saved me - once more - by suggesting to use a foam paint roller, which I did. Now it was trial and error, sanding back colour, adding colour ... until I was satisfied somewhat. It still looked a bit naked so I stamped the background with the roman numbers, the damaged clock, and the protractor, finally I added some of the embossing enamel and sealed everything.
The men were stamped separately, coloured with distress stains and a waterbrush, and glued onto some design paper.
I die cut the cogs from rather thin cardboard and dry embossed them with the 'riveted metal' folder after I painted them with silver acrylic paint. Then layers and washes of  various other acrylic paints were added and sanded back (turquoise, blue green, quin gold, black). For the numbers I tried a slightly different technique and glued them onto Tim Holtz design paper that I sponged with distress ink rusty hinge and peacock feathers.
When all the single parts were done I wrapped some wire around the clockface and added the pieces.
Unfortunately the clock doesn't work anymore - no surprise there - but I think it's still kind of an eyecatcher when it will be hanging on the wall ...

Hope you like this a bit.
Thank you so much for stopping by and please don't miss out our challenge on the de stempelwinkel challenge blog, it's 'silhouettes' this week.

Maybe you don't have a silhouette stamp?
No worries.... use a 'normal' one ,black out the detail as I have for these cards....
.... although i cheated a bit by adding in some details in white pen.
I used distress inks for the background and black card bases.
I hope you'll come and join in our challenge... you have until THURSDAY midnight to link up.

I made a little book with a card. For the back ground of the card i sprayed with dylusions on craft paper. Let it dry and stamped the writing, pens and drops with stazon. For the faces i made background paper. I glued pieces of a book and a newspaper on a A4 copypaper. I riped a piece of and stamped the face and the tekst. Made accents with the sharpie on the drops and eyes. Two ribbons, black paper and vanilla paper and ready.

Crackle Mini Canvas Skull Silhouette

Stamps Used:
The Stars are from Prophecies Plate54
The Barbed Wire is from Hardware Findings 1 Plate159
Morning all and thank you for stopping by. Mark here and I have a mini box canvas
to share today.
I was thrilled to bits to see De Stempelwinkel stocking the new Media line Crackle Paste as I love this stuff and new I had to make something with it right away.
My canvas was sealed with matt medium, this is an important step with the crackle paste as it works best over a sealed surface. The paste was applied with a pallet knife and left to dry over night. The paste was then painted with Decoart's media fluids and their antiquing cream was added to highlight the cracks.
I also used the acrylic misters to create more texture and splashes of colour.
I used black gesso through a skull stencil and white gesso for the numbers, using gesso just gives a crisper finish to stencilling over a heavily textured surface.
I love the star stamp and using archival ink they were stamped in opposite corners to give some balance to the composition. The chit chat stickers were added to balance out the white numbers at the bottom and to give a theme or mood to the canvas.
The edges were painted black and the barbed wire was stamped using white paint.
I really wanted to use them to lift the side of the box canvas and add some interest where it's quite often over looked.
The whole canvas was then given a coat of satin varnish to help bring out the colours and give a nice sheen without being totally gloss. (sorry for the glare in s couple of pics)
Again thank you for stopping by. Head back tomorrow to see something new from one of our DT members.
And have you checked out our latest theme over on our CHALLENGE BLOG? the theme that has just started is Silhouettes.
