DAY # 4 of the 31 DAYS OF HALLOWEEN BLOG HOP. a small box

Welcome to DAY #4 of this month long blog hop.
The full blog roll is in the side bar and all the details of prizes, rules etc can be found HERE.
Today we have a project by

This started as a wooden box and I thought I could change it into something Halloween-ish :-)
So I first painted it with the acrylic paint for the skulls and stamped the skull tower image.
Then some modeling paste was added around the image with a palette knife.
The skulls were covered with distress crackle paint rock candy and the resulting cracks were highlighted by rubbing in brown acrylic paint.

While the modeling paste has been drying I stamped the Gargoyle twice, on cardstock and on kraft glassine, fuzzy cut the wings and glued them onto the coloured (water-soluble wax crayons) image.
I used a technique Andy Skinner teaches in one of his online workshops so sadly I can't share the details here. Everything was sealed with matte medium.
The emerging texture was highlighted by dry brushing various acrylic paints and  brown metallic wax (inka gold for example), and a little original rust was rubbed onto some areas.
Finally everything was put together and the metal embellishments were glued on.
Now it looks a bit lighter all in all, which is kind of a pity, but I'll get used to it :-)
I love how the Gargoyle's wings turned out.
On them, too, I used clear crackle paint and lightly added black acrylic paint into the cracks.
